The What’s of iPhone 4S Data Transfer More iPhone 4S Useful Tips Upgrading to a new phone means one thing: You have an old, tired and worked up phone in one hand, and you have that shiny new one in the other. Of course, you have to transfer your data from the old one to the new one. It’s just like inheriting something from your folks. But here, you do not have to sign some papers or prepare to meet some court people. All you have to do is to read and follow instructions. Transferring Data: The Menace Not so long ago, data transfer could really be a pain in the neck. Remember the time when you had to manually select stuff one by one just to save them to another modem? Too tiring huh? Well, if you are worried and you think it’s too troublesome to transfer your data to a new phone, you can kiss those worries goodbye. We’ve got your back covered! Apple provided these tips on how you can easily transfer data in just a few clicks. Let’s get to it, shall we? 1. Check if you have the latest version of iTunes. Make sure it is in iTunes version 10.5. If it is not, then you can download the latest version of iTunes straight from Apple. Go to Apple.com and get that mouse clicking. 2. After installing or updating your iTunes 10.5, connect your current iPhone to iTunes and sync it. Confirm that your original iPhone is backed up with all its data. 3. Next, connect your new iPhone to iTunes (on the same computer you used to back up your current iPhone). This is a crucial step as the computer detects if a new device is connected. You cannot transfer the data in a computer if it is the data does not originate there. 4. Now, iTunes will inquire if you want to restore from a backup or set up your new iPhone as your new phone. Once prompted, choose the backup of your current iPhone to initiate data transfer. If iTunes did not prompt you to select a backup to restore when you connected your new iPhone, use iTunes to restore iOS on your new iPhone and repeat the step once more. Note: Throughout the process of restoring your old backup to a new iPhone, you may see the iTunes progress bar paused or suspended. If this takes place, please allow for additional time for the upgrade to complete. Patience is a virtue! 5. After iTunes finishes restoring the backup you had to your new iPhone, the iPhone will automatically restart. Note: Do not force shut down your iPhone or force open it. 6. Once your new iPhone appears in the iTunes window for the second time, select it. 7. Click the tabs (Music, Photos, and so on) and confirm or change the items you want to sync. 8. Click Apply to sync your new iPhone with iTunes. 9. Verify that all your saved SMS messages, email accounts, passwords, photos, notes, and other personal settings are present on your new iPhone. Note: You will be required to enter your email account and voicemail passwords again. If you do not remember your voicemail password, you can just reset it to use the feature again. Remember: If saved SMS messages, email accounts, photos, notes, or other personal settings are not present on your new iPhone, then restore-from-backup may not have been successful. In that case, verify your current iPhone is properly backed up (see step 2), then use iTunes to restore iOS on your new iPhone and continue following these instructions at step 4. This guide is also applicable if you are planning to switch from an older iPhone to iPhone 3GS or iPhone as well. We also feel that it is better to update your current/old iPhone to the latest iOS software update - iOS 5 so that you don't hit any compatibility issues while transferring data using this method as iPhone 4S will come pre-installed with iOS 5. If you've backed up your data to iCloud then there’s another way to transfer contents from your current iPhone to your new iPhone 4S, but it would be a lot more time consuming so we prefer this manual process. |
